Coronavirus: Oman reports first mutant COVID-19 strain
Oman has reported the first case of a new coronavirus strain in a resident.
“The ministry indicated that the genetic mutation of the COVID-19 disease was diagnosed in a resident who came to the Sultanate from the United Kingdom and showed respiratory symptoms while undergoing health isolation. The COVID-19 tests of the patient before his arrival and on arrival in the Sultanate are negative,” the statement added.
On Monday, 14th 14, 2020, the UK announced that a new coronavirus strain had been detected in the country, with the new variant being 70 per cent more transmissible. After the news emerged, many countries suspended travel to and from the UK.
In a statement, the Ministry of Health said, “All procedures have been applied to deal with the infected person.”
