5 food trends for 2018

At the beginning of every year, it's predicted what's going to be hot in the world of food and what everyone will be sharing pictures of on their Instagram feed!

Here are the TOP 5 expected food trends of 2018 as predicted by those professional foodie types!

1. Middle Eastern Inspired-food

It would seem that the rest of the world are realising the beauty of cooking with spices such as turmeric, harissa, cardamon, and za'atar and also according to those in the know we'll be seeing lots more of ingredients such as tahini, tomato jam and halloumi being used in recipes.

2. Plant-based diets

What with the increasing popularity of Meat Free Monday's it's not surprising that more and more people are looking into plant-based diets (vegan food). In 2018 it's expected that things such as almond milk, soy & rice based protein and quinoa will become more of a permanent fixture on restaurant menus everywhere.

3. Floral Flavours

This year we'll be sipping on floral teas and lavender lattes. Expect to see rose-flavoured everything and elderflower fizzy drinks being sipped in every cafe.

4. Sparkly Flavoured Water

Water just got even more interesting. In 2018 we'll be drinking more sparkling water... However, this time it'll be flavoured with different fruit juices and apparently, it'll become our choice of drink to grab on the go! With fewer calories than soda and more taste than sparkling-water, we can totally see why this would be a popular choice.

5. Non-Traditional Superfoods

Over recent years foods such as quinoa and buckwheat have been popular. This year we'll be trying out recipes using more nut oils, maqui berries & tiger nuts.
