Sitting in a Hot Bath Burns the Same Amount of Calories as Going for a Run!
If you're still on your "new years fitness journey" good on you, you've made it 4 months! We gave up 3 months and 29 days ago, but we could be jumping back on the health wagon.
Scientists have now revealed that there is an easier way to burn the same amount of calories, as you would if you went for a run - sit in a hot bath!
We're serious! A study was created at Loughborough University saying that sitting in a bath has the same affect as exercise, as well as helping prevent type 2 diabetes.
Now we all know some of you are gonna get to the comments and go this is completely untrue, but don't have a go at us for it, shout at Dr Steve Faulkner, the head researcher on the study, he said that passive heating (A.K.A sitting in a really hot bath and sweating until you're uncomfortable) is great for your health!
Dr Faulkner tested 14 people, each of which would sit in a hot bath for 1 hour, and do an hour long bike ride, and although the bike ride did burn more calories, studies proved that the hot bath still used up just as many calories as a brisk half hour walk or jog!
Speaking about his findings Dr. Faulkner said: "The overall blood sugar response to both conditions was similar, but peak blood sugar after eating was about 10 per cent lower when participants took a hot bath compared with when they exercised. This suggests that repeated passive heating may contribute to reducing chronic inflammation, which is often present with long-term diseases, such as type 2 diabetes."
So now when you tell people you're off to the gym, you can actually sit in a lovely hot bubble bath without feeling like you've lied to people. YOU'RE WELCOME!
