Muscat – The 13th edition of the Oman Poetry Festival, organised by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, will begin on December 14 and run till December 18 at the Ministry of Information Theatre in Muscat. The festival brings together distinguished Omani poets, alongside prominent guests from across the Arab world.
This year’s programme features poetry evenings, cultural sessions and specialised seminars throughout the five-day event.
As part of its annual tradition, the festival will honour four poets – Salim bin Ali al Kalbani, Hammoud bin Suleiman al Hajri, the late Mohammed bin Issa al Harthi and the late Hilalah bint Khalifa al Hamdaniyah – who have made significant contributions to Omani poetry and the local cultural scene.
The Arab poets participating this year include Hassan Najmi (Morocco), Hamed Zaid (Kuwait), Hassan Amer (Egypt), Zainab a Baloushi (UAE), Nasser al Hammadin (Saudi Arabia), Yasser al Atrash (Syria) and Yahya al Allaqq (Iraq).
In the competition segment, the poets who qualified in the Classical Arabic Poetry category are Ashraf al Asimi, Ashraf al Awfi, Abdullah al Dhahli, Qusai al Nabhani, Majid al Nadabi, Mohammed al Farsi, Mohammed al Mashani, Nasser al Ghassani and Hilal al Shiadi.
In the Popular Poetry category, the finalists are Ahmed al Maghribi, Ahmed al Maamari, Salih al Hatmi, Ali al Rasbi and Nasser al Hadhrami.
The programme includes two seminars reviewing the creative journeys of the honoured poets in both classical and popular poetry, in addition to dedicated poetry evenings for the finalists and a special night featuring the Arab guest poets.
