Turkiye – Foreign Ministry has formally extended its sincere condolences and sympathy to the Government and people of the Turkiye following the tragic crash of a military cargo aircraft.
The incident involved a Turkish military C-130 cargo plane carrying 20 military personnel, including the flight crew. Turkiye’s defence ministry confirmed today that all 20 on board were killed in the disaster.
The C-130 had taken off from Ganja airport in western Azerbaijan and was en route back to Turkiye when it went down in Georgia’s Sighnaghi municipality, an area approximately five kilometers from the border with Azerbaijan. Georgian air traffic control reported losing contact with the aircraft shortly after it entered Georgian airspace, noting that the plane did not transmit a distress signal. Eyewitness video footage published by local media appeared to show the plane spiraling and leaving a trail of white smoke before crashing into a mountain and triggering thick black smoke.
The cause of the crash is currently under investigation, with Turkiye dispatching an accident investigation team to coordinate search, recovery, and technical inquiry efforts alongside Georgian and Azerbaijani authorities.
