Muscat – The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has reported significant improvements in telecommunications services across Muscat Governorate, with high-speed internet coverage in schools reaching 100%.
The update came during a field visit conducted by Eng Omar bin Hamdan al Ismaili, CEO of TRA, who was accompanied by senior officials and representatives of telecom operators. The visit aimed to review ongoing telecom projects in Muscat and assess the challenges facing service expansion, as part of the authority’s continuous monitoring of sector development across the sultanate.

A TRA official said the programme included a meeting with H.E. Saud bin Hilal al Busaidi, Governor of Muscat, to discuss the status of telecom services in the governorate. The delegation also carried out field inspections in several villages and neighbourhoods to examine mobile network performance and identify measures to enhance internet coverage, ensuring higher quality and reliability.
According to the TRA, key indicators reflect notable progress: high-speed internet now covers 100% of schools in the governorate, while fixed broadband services in residential units have reached over 98% via 5G and 84% through fibre-optic networks.

The number of 5G stations has surged to 2,076 in 2025, compared to only 131 in 2020. Similarly, the number of 4G stations increased from 3,073 to 5,512 over the same period.
The authority confirmed that several telecom infrastructure projects were implemented in 2025 as part of national efforts to expand connectivity and support digital transformation.
