Oman has posted the world’s hottest low temperature ever recorded!
This week the temperature in Quriyat never dropped below 42.6 Celsius, this sets a new world record for the hottest nighttime temperature on Earth!
In fact, the temperature in Quriyat remained above 41.9 Celsius for 51 straight hours. Its blistering afternoon high temperature of 49.8 Celsius on Tuesday was just about two degrees shy of Oman’s all-time heat record and our highest June temperature.
Tuesday’s record-breaking heat resulted from a strong high-altitude, high-pressure system or heat dome anchored over the region, which pumped air temperatures up to 15 degrees above normal. Even the sea surface temperature in the adjacent waters was around 32 Celsius!
We'll just be over here melting.
