Muscat – The Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation (MoHERI ) will host the Annual Researchers’ Forum, titled ‘Research Published, Visions Realised’, on Sunday. The event will be held under the patronage of H H Sayyida Meyyan bint Shihab al Said and attended by a number of dignitaries, senior officials, and representatives of public and private higher education institutions and research centres, at Al Bustan Palace, Muscat.
The Annual Researchers’ Forum is one of the country’s most significant scientific gatherings, providing a platform for researchers and stakeholders to explore the latest developments, exchange knowledge, and foster collaboration between academic, scientific and community sectors. It encourages researchers to submit proposals, showcase their work and highlight advances across diverse scientific fields.
During the forum, the winners of the 12th edition of the National Research Award (2025) will be announced. The award features two categories: Best Published Scientific Research for PhD holders (or equivalent, including senior medical specialists), and Best Published Scientific Research for Young Researchers (non-PhD holders). Submissions span six research sectors: education and human resources; information and communication systems; health and community service; energy and industry; culture, humanities, social sciences and basic sciences; and environment and biological resources.
A total of 284 researchers applied for this year’s competition, including 175 submissions from PhD holders or their equivalents, and 109 from young researchers. The event will also witness the signing of research contracts under the Strategic Research Projects Programme – designed to support government institutions – and the Performance-Based Institutional Funding Programme for higher education institutions.
The forum will feature presentations on the ministry’s scientific research and innovation programmes, as well as insights into the Global Innovation Index in Arab countries. Recommendations for improving the quality of scientific publishing will be discussed, alongside a panel session on enhancing research output to support national priorities and the sharing of an inspiring scientific publishing success story.
An exhibition showcasing award-winning research projects and a selection of innovative projects by Omani innovators will accompany the forum.
This year’s edition carries added significance as it coincides with Oman’s hosting—through the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation—of the 47th Ordinary Session of the Arab Scientific Research Councils Union. The annual meetings aim to advance the Arab scientific research ecosystem and review initiatives that enhance research efficiency and its role in supporting sustainable development across the region.
