Salalah – The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology has opened the Attin tunnel project in Salalah, aimed at easing traffic congestion ahead of the Khareef season.
The RO11mn project is part of efforts to improve road connectivity and traffic flow in Dhofar. Said bin Mohammed Tabuk, Director-General of Roads and Land Transport in Dhofar, said the project is 97% complete, delivered 24% ahead of schedule. It was executed by a local contractor, reflecting the capability of Omani firms in major infrastructure work.
The development includes a 9km road network, a 1.35km dual-carriageway tunnel, and the widening of November 18th Street to four lanes in each direction over 2.7km. It also comprises 1.3km of slip roads, seven service roads, and multiple access points designed to ease congestion.
Tabuk said the tunnel would play a key role in reducing traffic pressure during the tourist-heavy Khareef season and contribute to improved road safety and regional development.
