Muscat – A number of agreements were signed on Sunday between be’ah and several governorates to transfer responsibilities for municipal waste collection and transportation services.
Under the agreements, the governorates of Musandam, Buraimi, Dakhliyah, North Batinah, South Batinah, South Sharqiyah, Dhahirah, and Al Wusta will assume responsibility for overseeing waste collection and transport operations from December 1.
The initiative forms part of the government’s efforts to enhance institutional integration in managing the municipal solid waste sector, while advancing governance and environmental sustainability goals.
The agreements are aimed at improving the quality and efficiency of municipal services, ensuring that operations are managed according to modern technical and environmental standards. This step is expected to contribute to building cleaner, more sustainable cities and creating a safer and healthier urban environment.
be’ah will continue to manage and operate its technical facilities, including engineered landfills, transfer stations, and healthcare and hazardous waste treatment facilities. The company will also focus on developing circular economy projects and improving resource management efficiency by turning waste into a sustainable economic resource.
