Buraimi – Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) has successfully mediated a settlement between a local consumer and a vehicle repair workshop following a significant technical failure. The agreement resulted in the consumer receiving RO 7,000 in compensation after his vehicle was completely destroyed by fire due to a maintenance error.
The incident originated when the consumer took his vehicle to a specialist workshop to address a persistent smell of petrol. Although repairs were supposedly completed, the owner noticed the return of the fuel odour and a burning smell shortly after departing the premises. Upon stopping the vehicle to investigate, the car ignited and was subsequently engulfed in flames. While the Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority managed to extinguish the blaze and no injuries were reported, the vehicle was declared a total loss.
Following a formal complaint, the Consumer Protection Authority initiated an investigation and summoned the involved parties. Evidence confirmed that a technical mistake made by the workshop staff during the repair process was the direct cause of the fire. The establishment admitted full responsibility for the error, leading to an amicable settlement.
