Muscat – Students from schools in Dakhliyah have achieved international success in the field of robotics following the sultanate’s team – comprising students from Sheikh Ahmed bin Abdullah al Kindi Basic Education School and Abu Obaidah Basic Education School – securing top positions at the Global Robotics Challenge in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The competition, hosted by the Technical College in Riyadh in partnership with the Saudi Federation for Robotics and RC Sports and the Discovery Academy for Science and Technology, drew 220 teams and 750 participants from Saudi Arabia, alongside six teams from other Arab countries.
Oman’s delegation, representing the Dakhliyah Directorate of Education, won first place in the Ramp Rush – Juniors category. The team comprised Marwan bin Mohammed al Shuraiki and Hudhaifa bin Abdullah al Shuraiki, who demonstrated exceptional skills in design, programming and robot control.
Additionally, the Omani team of Imran bin Suleiman al Kindi from Sheikh Ahmed bin Abdullah al Kindi Basic Education School and Hamad bin Mohammed al Salmi from Abu Obaidah Basic Education School secured second place in the Tug of War competition following strong performance across several preliminary rounds. Both teams were trained and supervised by Khalfan bin Saeed al Salmi, whose efforts played a key role in enhancing the students’ technical abilities and preparing them for global-level competition.
The accomplishment highlights Dakhliyah’s growing presence on the international stage and reflects the merit of its scientific and innovation-driven educational programmes, which continue to nurture a generation capable of excelling in robotics, artificial intelligence and programming.
