Muscat – The Dhofar Khareef season has been named the “Outstanding Tourist Destination of the Year 2025” at the Arabian Travel Awards in London, organised by the London Arab Organisation. The event brought together leading figures and institutions from the global tourism sector.
The recognition highlights the success of the Dhofar Khareef season in recent years and its growing prominence at regional and international levels. Dhofar’s unique natural landscapes and moderate year-round climate have positioned it as one of Oman’s leading tourist destinations.
Dr Ahmed bin Mohsen Al Ghassani, Chairman of Dhofar Municipality, who received the award, said the honour reflected the collective efforts of various stakeholders in the governorate. He noted that the selection was based on several qualitative indicators, including the increasing international interest in the Khareef season, the diversity of cultural and environmental activities, and the strength of tourism infrastructure and services.
Dr Al Ghassani added that the award also recognises Oman’s commitment to environmental preservation and biodiversity—key elements in Dhofar Municipality’s long-term sustainable tourism strategy.
H E Azzan bin Qasim al Busaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism for Tourism, said the Ministry implemented an extensive promotional plan for the 2025 Khareef season. The campaign, themed “Your Summer is Green,” included a series of marketing initiatives in Oman and across Gulf markets, supported by mobile exhibitions in several Gulf capitals.
According to Al Busaidi, the digital campaign reached about six million views, helping boost visibility for Dhofar’s natural and recreational attractions. He added that several new hotels opened this year, raising the governorate’s accommodation capacity to more than 8,000 rooms.
