Nizwa – The University of Technology and Applied Sciences (UTAS) in Nizwa will host the first International Conference on Creative Industries and Sustainable Innovation from November 16 to 17.
Organised by the university’s College of Creative Industries, it will be held at the Oman Across Ages Museum in Manah under the patronage of H E Dr Said bin Mohammed al Saqri, Minister of Economy, in the presence of Dr Said bin Hamad al Rubaii, Vice-Chancellor of the university.
The conference will bring together academics, innovators and researchers from Oman and abroad to discuss ways to integrate sustainability and creativity across disciplines such as design, architecture, fashion, media and filmmaking.
Creative industries are seen as a key pillar in achieving Oman Vision 2040, which seeks to diversify the economy and embed innovation in all sectors while promoting environmental, social and economic sustainability.
The first scientific platform of its kind in Oman, the conference aims to facilitate exchange of research and ideas that link creativity with sustainable development. It will focus on strengthening collaboration between local and international experts and highlight the role of education in driving innovation and sustainable practices.
By bringing global perspectives to Oman, the conference seeks to position the country as a regional leader in sustainable creative industries and connect local efforts with international experience. It also reflects the growing role of academic institutions such as UTAS in preparing a new generation of creative professionals aligned with the goals of economic diversification.
The conference will cover several themes, including sustainable and innovative policy frameworks, the role of technology and artificial intelligence in creative sectors, and sustainability in the creative economy.
Discussions will address issues such as national strategies for innovation, financing sustainable projects and the contribution of creative industries to circular economies. The event will also explore how AI and emerging technologies can improve efficiency and sustainability across creative disciplines.
Through the conference, Oman aims to enhance cooperation, knowledge exchange and global partnerships to promote innovation, creativity and sustainability within its growing creative economy.
