Governors review tourism, urban projects in Dakhliyah

Nizwa – A development programme in Misfat al Abriyeen, listed among the world’s most beautiful tourist villages, is 30% complete, officials said during a field visit by a delegation of governors.

The visit was a part of periodic reviews of development projects across Dakhliyah which are aimed at enhancing tourism and quality of life in the governorate. Officials carried out inspections in the wilayats of Nizwa, Al Hamra and Bahla, assessing progress on initiatives aimed at supporting tourism, improving services and stimulating economic activity.

The Misfat al Abriyeen project is designed to transform the village into an integrated tourism destination while preserving its architectural heritage. Plans include more than 80 hotel rooms, a traditional house and over six museums and archaeological galleries. Officials said the project is expected to contribute to the local economy by creating employment and investment opportunities linked to heritage tourism.

In Nizwa, the delegation reviewed the Nizwa Public Park project, one of the governorate’s major urban developments. The project has reached 88% completion and is scheduled for delivery in the first quarter of 2026. Authorities said close monitoring continues to ensure adherence to the approved timeline.

Spread over 150,000sqm and costing more than RO2mn, the park aims to offer an integrated public space combining recreational, educational and cultural facilities. Features include an artificial lake, children’s play areas, green spaces, cafés and restaurants, sports facilities, an investment zone, a library and a medicinal garden. The project is expected to generate 24 investment opportunities and around 65 jobs, with local content estimated at up to 50%.

The delegation also reviewed progress on the Dakhliyah Square project in Nizwa, which has reached 24% completion. Covering approximately 145,000sqm, the development has a local content rate of 60% and is intended to enhance services and infrastructure through a mix of tourism, cultural, entertainment and environmental components.

Planned facilities include family walkways, cycling tracks, sports areas, open-air theatres, entertainment zones, restaurants, a cultural street with cafés, a library and a market for local artisans. The project is expected to create about 380 direct and indirect jobs and offer 57 investment opportunities.

In Bahla, officials reviewed renovation works at Bahla Souq, which exceeded 69% completion by the end of November. The RO477,000 project aims to revitalise the historic market while preserving its heritage.
