Muscat – The Italian Embassy in Oman marked the Italian Design Day in the World 2026 on Tuesday with a special panel discussion that brought together leading figures from architecture and design to explore the evolving role of cities and urban spaces.
The event featured Architect Andrea Boschetti, Ambassador of the Italian Design Day to Oman 2026 and founder of Metrogramma Studio, alongside Senior Architect Arianna Piva, partner at Metrogramma.
Titled ‘The Architect’s Craft: (RE)-Designing Cities’, the discussion examined how architecture and urban design could contribute to sustainable urban regeneration and foster inclusive, people-centred communities. The session drew on Italian expertise as well as international best practices, highlighting the need for cities to balance rapid development with environmental responsibility and social inclusion.
Architect Boschetti, also Head of Design at The One Atelier, shared insights from his global projects, emphasising how contemporary architecture must respond to both technological progress and community needs. He said, “Future cities should prioritise public spaces, sustainability, and cultural identity while adapting to changing lifestyles.”
Arianna expanded on these themes by discussing the importance of integrating urban planning with human experience, ensuring that cities remain livable and connected. She added, “Architects today carry the responsibility of designing spaces that encourage social interaction while respecting environmental challenges.”
Michele Galli, CEO of The One Atelier, added about innovations in branded real estate and luxury developments, illustrating how thoughtful design could elevate urban living standards.
Special guest Fabrizio Cardinali, CEO of the Italian fashion house ETRO, contributed perspectives on how design sensibilities from fashion and lifestyle industries increasingly influenced architectural experiences and residential environments.
The event witnessed a dynamic gathering where architects, designers, developers, students, and members of the creative community in Oman collectively emphasised the growing importance of collaboration across creative industries in shaping modern cities, highlighting examples of successful urban transformations around the world. They noted that architecture now played a crucial role in defining not only skylines but also quality of life.
