Muscat – The University of Tokyo has awarded the prestigious Shukumon Award to the Government of the Sultanate of Oman in recognition of its contributions to supporting scientific research and academic and cultural exchange in the diverse field of Middle Eastern studies.
The award was received on behalf of the Government of the Sultanate of Oman by His Excellency Dr. Mohammed bin Said al Busaidi, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to Japan.
This honor is based on the pivotal and vital role played by the Sultan Qaboos Chair for Middle Eastern Studies, which was inaugurated at the university in 2011.
This award is the highest honor bestowed by the University of Tokyo upon individuals and institutions who have made significant and influential contributions to the university’s progress and its academic goals. The Sultanate of Oman’s win marks a first in the history of this award, as it is the first Arab government ever to receive it.
