Qurum – Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources (MAFWR) has issued an official clarification regarding the recent circulation of social media footage showing a group of stingrays at Qurum Beach. In a formal statement, the Ministry explained that such occurrences are often the result of improper fishing practices conducted by some individuals. Specifically, the use of certain types of fishing nets, can lead to the incidental capture of non-target marine species.
The Ministry emphasised that these unsustainable practices negatively impact the long-term viability of fish stocks and lead to significant imbalances within the marine ecosystem. Consequently, authorities have issued a stern call to all fishermen to strictly adhere to established laws and regulations governing fishing operations. This compliance is deemed essential to ensure the protection of the marine environment and to preserve Oman’s natural fisheries for future generations.
