Muscat – Khalid bin Waleed al Zadjali, Director of Oman Convention Bureau at Ministry of Heritage and Tourism (MHT), has been elected to the Board of Directors of the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA), representing the Middle East. He becomes the first Omani to assume this prestigious international role.
Zadjali’s election highlights the ministry’s growing efforts, through Oman Convention Bureau, to advance the conferences and incentives travel sector and boost the sultanate’s global profile as a world-class destination for major events.
His presence in the ICCA board is expected to enhance international cooperation and the exchange of expertise with member states and institutions. ICCA is considered a leading global reference for the meetings and conventions industry, playing a central role in setting standards and shaping the future of this vital sector.
Oman’s presence on the board will support the promotion of the sultanate as a preferred destination for international conferences and events, attracting high-profile gatherings across key sectors, particularly those aligned with Vision 2040. This is anticipated to boost economic diversification and reinforce the country’s growing position in the global meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) market.
The appointment also provides an opportunity to showcase Oman’s diverse tourism offerings – from natural attractions and cultural experiences to modern infrastructure, resorts and conference facilities – enhancing its appeal to global markets and increasing visitor inflows.
Founded in 1963, ICCA is one of the world’s most prominent organisations in the international meetings and events industry, with more than 1,100 members across over 100 countries. Its board comprises 16 representatives from different global regions.
