Bahla– The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism (MHT) has completed the restoration of Al Wadi al A’la Mosque in the wilayat of Bahla as part of ongoing efforts to preserve historic mosques, protect their architectural value and enhance their sustainability as culturally significant landmarks.
Wadi al A’la village is one of these tourist villages in Bahla and is about 30km from the centre of the wilayat. It is located at the foot of the Al Koor mountain on its eastern side and has a population of more than 3,000 people. It is called by the residents as ‘Wadi of majesty and beauty’.
Work on the project began last year and involved comprehensive restoration of the mosque’s architectural and structural elements in line with approved technical standards, ensuring the safety of the building and its continued use by worshippers.
The project forms part of the ministry’s broader plans to rehabilitate and maintain historic landmarks across the sultanate. These efforts aim to preserve the authentic architectural character of historic mosques while strengthening their presence within the urban landscape.
The Bahla mosque restoration is one of a series of projects being undertaken by the ministry in various governorates, reflecting its commitment to safeguarding Oman’s cultural heritage and preserving the nation’s architectural identity.
