Muscat – The Oman Cancer Association (OCA) convened a special assembly to observe World Cancer Day, an annual global initiative dedicated to elevating public consciousness regarding oncological risks and the vital necessity of early clinical detection. The event served as a platform to advocate for a robust culture of prevention and to reinforce the psychological and social support frameworks available to patients and their families throughout the Sultanate.

Central to the proceedings were educational sessions highlighting contemporary advancements in oncology treatment and the efficacy of healthy lifestyle choices in mitigating disease risk. A significant portion of the ceremony was dedicated to “Dar Al Hanan,” a cornerstone humanitarian initiative that has provided comprehensive care for children with cancer and their resident families for fifteen years. Through a visual presentation, attendees were shown the integrated services offered by the facility, which include specialized accommodation, transportation, and family-centric care.

In his keynote address, Dr Wahid Ali al Kharousi, Chairman of the Oman Cancer Association, lauded the community’s role in sustaining these vital services. He remarked that the 15th anniversary of “Dar Al Hanan” serves as a poignant reminder of the collective responsibility to support young patients. This year’s global theme, “United by Unique,” was heavily emphasised, promoting a holistic care model that respects individual patient experiences. The event concluded with a formal recognition of the volunteers and supporters whose contributions remain essential to the Association’s ongoing humanitarian mission.
