Muscat – Oman has renewed its unwavering commitment to advancing child welfare and strengthening global partnerships, placing children at the centre of its development agenda.
Speaking at the opening session of UNICEF’s Executive Board, the sultanate underlined the importance of continued collaboration with the UN agency to help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and to safeguard the well-being of children worldwide.
Oman highlighted that this partnership is firmly anchored in the implementation of the Country Programme (2026–2030), aligned with Oman Vision 2040 and the Eleventh Five-Year Development Plan. The programme underscores the nation’s pledge to the Convention on the Rights of the Child and prioritises early childhood development, inclusive education, and youth empowerment.
Key areas of focus include expanding access to quality health and education services, supporting adolescents and youth by enhancing their skills and participation in society, and strengthening social inclusion. Special emphasis will be given to protecting vulnerable groups, particularly children with disabilities, while upholding justice and equality as guiding principles.
Oman also voiced strong support for UNICEF’s Strategic Plan (2026–2029), which places children at the heart of the UN’s work. The sultanate stressed the need for greater protection of children in conflict zones and called for effective international partnerships to secure a safer, more just future for the next generation.
Addressing the humanitarian situation in the region, Oman expressed deep concern over the plight of children in the occupied Palestinian territories, where famine and shortages of basic necessities have left them increasingly vulnerable. It urged the international community to take urgent action to protect civilians, uphold international law, and guarantee the rights and dignity of children everywhere.
