Muscat – The Sultanate of Oman and the United States of America held the third session of their Strategic Dialogue on Sunday at the Diplomatic Club in Muscat.

The Omani side was chaired by H E Sheikh Khalifa Ali al Harthy, Undersecretary for Political Affairs in the Foreign Ministry, while the American side was chaired by Allison Hooker, US Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs.

The two sides discussed means of maximising the benefits of the free trade agreement between the two countries and augmenting American investments in sectors of priority for Oman. 

These sectors include the digital economy, technology and space, in addition to mining, logistics, aviation, and infrastructure. Cooperation in the fields of education and culture was also discussed, particularly educational programmes, academic and professional exchange, and investment in research and innovation.

The two sides further exchanged views and positions on a number of regional and international issues, emphasising the importance of backing efforts for peace, stability, and development.

During the dialogue, Oman announced the approval to join the Artemis Accords for space exploration. A cooperation statement on the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States of America was also signed. The cooperation also includes the commemoration of the historical relations between the two countries. 

Furthermore, a memorandum of understanding for partnership and cooperation was signed between the Embassy of the United States of America in Oman and the Oman American Business Center.

Foreign Minister H E Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidi received Allison Hooker. 

During the meeting, the two sides discussed prospects for enhancing bilateral cooperation across various political and economic fields. They also touched upon ways to encourage American investments in priority sectors for Oman in a manner that supports the long-term strategic partnership between the two countries.
