Muscat – Oman ended its campaign at the Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh with nine medals, marking a strong showing for the national delegation in athletics, fencing and weightlifting. Held from November 7 to 21, the games featured more than 3,000 athletes from 57 countries competing in 23 sports. Oman took part in eight disciplines.
Ali al Balushi delivered one of the team’s standout results, winning gold in the 100m clocking 10.30 seconds. The performance reinforced his growing reputation among regional sprinters. “Standing on the podium with the Omani flag gives me a feeling I cannot describe,” he said. “This medal represents years of training and sacrifice. It motivates me to push harder and aim for more medals for Oman in the coming days.”
Oman’s fencing contingent produced a strong finish on the final day, collecting three medals. The women’s foil team – Israa al Siyabi, Jana al Sharjiya, Salma al Daghishiya and Ghazal al Falitiya – secured gold, while the men’s foil and épée teams won two bronze medals through Ahmed Kaskas, Al Harith al Harthi, Saeed al Shuaibi and Ali al Busaidi.

In individual fencing, Israa’s earlier bronze was praised by officials as a milestone for the sport in Oman. She advanced through a demanding draw before reaching the semi-finals. “This medal means a lot to me and to everyone who has believed in our potential,” she said, dedicating it to her family, teammates and the federation. Coaches described the achievement as a reflection of structured training and the expanding talent base nurtured by the Oman Fencing Committee.
In athletics, Fatek Jaboob claimed bronze in high jump, while the men’s 4x100m relay team secured silver in para athletics. Weightlifter Amur al Khanjari added two medals in the 88kg category – bronze overall and silver in clean and jerk.
Oman’s nine-medal tally reflects steady progress in its high-performance sports system, with increased focus on long-term athlete development, international competition exposure and wider participation.
