Muscat – The inaugural Russian Film Festival will open in Muscat from November 16 to 18, introducing Omani audiences to contemporary Russian cinema through a diverse line-up of films.
Organised by ROSKINO in cooperation with the Russian Ministry of Culture, the event will take place at VOX Cinemas in the Mall of Oman. It marks a new milestone in cultural exchange, aiming to strengthen artistic dialogue between Oman and Russia.
The festival will feature five films that reflect the evolution of Russian filmmaking, including drama, folklore-inspired adventure, sports biography, family animation and science fiction. All screenings will include Arabic or English subtitles, with two films – Finist. The First Warrior and Cats in the Museum – dubbed in Arabic to ensure wider accessibility.
The opening ceremony on November 16 will feature Air, directed by Aleksei German Jr. Set during wartime, the film follows young female pilots confronting the realities of battle and the strength required to survive. The event will be attended by the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Oman and senior representatives from ROSKINO.
The programme continues on November 17 with Finist. The First Warrior, a folklore-inspired family adventure, and Rowing for Gold, a sports drama tracing a young athlete’s rise from hardship to Olympic success.
On November 18, audiences can enjoy Cats in the Museum, a family animation set in St Petersburg’s Hermitage Museum, followed by Guest from the Future, a science fiction story about friendship and courage across time.
Elsa Antonova, General Director of ROSKINO, said, “We are honoured to launch the first Russian Film Festival in the Sultanate of Oman. This initiative celebrates the richness and diversity of Russian cinema and opens a cultural bridge between our two nations.”
The festival is expected to add value to Oman’s cultural calendar and support efforts to enhance creative engagement, reflecting the country’s growing interest in international and independent cinema.
