Rustaq – In a first-of-its-kind initiative, the Omani Women’s Association in Rustaq organised an iftar for women in the scenic surroundings of Wadi Al Sahtan, blending the spiritual essence of Ramadan with active community engagement.
The gathering brought together association members, women volunteers, social activists and residents of the wilayat of various age groups. Careful planning marked the event, with volunteer teams overseeing reception, seating arrangements and site preparations in a manner that respected and preserved the natural environment.
Organisers said the choice of venue was intentional, aimed at showcasing Rustaq’s rich natural assets while reinforcing a sense of place and Omani identity. They emphasised that the initiative was designed to be more than a shared meal – a community-centred experience fostering dialogue, solidarity and meaningful engagement among women.
Participants began arriving nearly two hours before sunset, with seating arranged to encourage interaction and inclusivity. At the call to the Maghrib prayer, attendees broke their fast together, followed by collective supplication reflecting the spirit of Ramadan and shared gratitude.

The programme continued with a brief welcome address underscoring the importance of dedicating the holy month to volunteerism and strengthening social cohesion. Speakers commended the efforts of supporters and volunteers whose contributions ensured the success of the inaugural event.
A short religious reflection highlighted the virtues of Ramadan and the value of community-driven initiatives in nurturing compassion and mutual support. The evening concluded with recognition of several contributors for their role in advancing social work in the wilayat.
The association stated that the outdoor iftar was part of its annual plan to further activate the role of women in social and cultural spheres, while expanding platforms for constructive participation at the local level. It added that future editions may incorporate educational and environmental components to enhance sustainability and broaden community outreach.
Attendees welcomed the initiative, describing it as a meaningful step that reflects the vitality of women-led community work in Rustaq and demonstrates how Oman’s natural landscapes can serve as inspiring settings for social gatherings during the holy month.
