Muscat – The International Society for Education Through Art (InSEA) has appointed Prof Mohammed bin Hamoud al Amri of Sultan Qaboos University as its ambassador for the Africa and Middle East region for a three-year term starting in 2025.
Prof Amri is a faculty member in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at the College of Education. He has previously held several academic and administrative roles, including head of the department, head of the Training and Field Experience Unit and assistant head of the department.
He has published widely in Arabic and English, authoring books and chapters on arts education, heritage and visual culture. His works include Education and Heritage: Concepts and Practical Applications, Visual Art in Oman and A Critical Reading of the Experiences of Young Sculptors in the Sultanate of Oman, and studies on field experience and accreditation. He was also invited by the University of Cambridge to contribute three chapters to an international encyclopedia.
Prof Amri has collaborated with Unesco on major arts education frameworks. He contributed to the Unesco Roadmap for Arts Education, the Seoul Agenda and the 2024 Framework for Arts and Culture Education.
His contributions to the field have earned him several honours, including the Edwin Ziegfeld Award for Leadership and Excellence in Arts Education.
A non-governmental organisation and official partner of Unesco, InSEA promotes arts, design and crafts education worldwide and supports international dialogue through its global programmes and events.
