Muscat – Oman’s national taekwondo athlete Nibras bin Mohammed al Touqi won the bronze medal in the senior category at the 2026 Arab Taekwondo Cup, hosted by the United Arab Emirates. The tournament concluded on Monday with the participation of more than 1,000 athletes from across the Arab world.
The 19-year-old’s latest result adds to a growing record at the event. He won silver in the 2025 edition, making him the only Omani athlete to reach the podium in the past two editions of the championship.
Touqi’s rise follows success at youth level, where he secured the championship title in 2022 and 2023. His early achievements underlined his ability to compete across age groups and supported his transition to the senior division, where he faced more experienced opponents.
He is currently undergoing professional training with Al Hariq Club in Saudi Arabia, which has contributed to his technical and physical development and provided broader international exposure. Touqi is ranked 24th in the world by World Taekwondo, reflecting his position among the sport’s leading competitors.
Speaking to Muscat Daily from the UAE, Touqi said he was pleased to reach the podium again at the Arab Cup. He described the medal as motivation to continue training and improve his performance to represent Oman in future competitions.

He dedicated the medal to Oman and thanked his coaches in Oman and Saudi Arabia for their support, noting that their guidance had been central to his progress.
Touqi said taekwondo had taught him discipline and patience, and to treat setbacks as opportunities to improve. He added that the sport had reinforced values such as respect and sportsmanship.
Addressing Omani youth, he encouraged them to pursue their ambitions and invest time in sport and skills development, stressing that progress requires commitment and sustained effort.
Touqi is now aiming to qualify for the Olympic Games. He continues to work with his coaches to collect ranking points through international competitions, with the goal of competing on the sport’s biggest stage and raising Oman’s flag at major events.
