Muscat – A group of five university students from Zanzibar will take part in the NASA Space Apps Hackathon 2025 scheduled in Bidiyah on October 4 and 5.
They will join more than 171 participants from around the world, including 34 teams from Oman, in the 48-hour challenge. Recognised as one of the biggest global events in space science and astronomy, the hackathon is designed to foster creativity, innovation and teamwork.
The Zanzibar team was selected from over a thousand applicants and will work alongside peers in Oman to develop solutions for real-world problems using NASA’s open data.
The hybrid event in Bidiyah, combining in-person and online participation, will bring together innovators and problem-solvers from diverse disciplines to collaborate over an intense two-day period.
Abdul Wahab al Busaidi, a key organiser, said, “This is an incredible opportunity for talented youth to engage with global challenges and showcase their ingenuity. The selection of students from Oman underscores the high calibre of innovation present in our universities, and we are confident they will make significant contributions.”
The NASA Space Apps Hackathon is an annual event that engages participants worldwide to apply NASA’s free and open data to address pressing challenges on Earth and beyond.
