Muscat – More than 50,000 visitors are expected to attend Indian Community Festival (ICF), a major art and cultural gathering organised by the Kerala Wing of Indian Social Club Oman. Formerly known as Keralotsavam, the festival will be held at Amerat Park from October 23 to 25.
The event will be inaugurated by Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, in what will mark only the second visit by a Kerala chief minister to Oman in nearly two decades. Distinguished guests expected to attend include Lulu Group Chairman MA Yusuff Ali, Gulfar Engineering and Contracting Co-Founder Dr P Mohamed Ali, and senior officials from Oman.
Wilson George, member of Loka Kerala Sabha and Director of the Pravasi Welfare Fund, said the festival’s theme this year – Be Humane, Let Peace Prevail – promotes global harmony and compassion through art and culture. “Around 700 artists, including expatriates and locals, will perform traditional and contemporary art forms from various Indian linguistic regions, alongside Omani cultural performances, showcasing the strong cultural ties between the two nations,” he said.
A major highlight of this year’s festival will be a concert by Kanal, a popular band from Kerala, in addition to food festivals, exhibitions, and performances celebrating India’s diversity and Oman’s artistic heritage. The ‘Festival Village’ will feature family-friendly attractions, cultural stalls and interactive activities.
Ajayan Poyyara, Convenor of the Kerala Wing, said the event will also host the Muscat Science Fest – a science exhibition and competition designed to encourage innovation among school students in Oman. “Open to both Indian and international schools, the exhibition will be inaugurated by scientist and science communicator Ratheesh Krishna. Entry will be free and the theme will focus on the environment and artificial intelligence,” he said.
According to festival organisers, it aims to strengthen cultural exchange, celebrate diversity, and bring together the Indian community and local residents in a shared spirit of friendship and creativity.
