Muscat – The number of products awarded the Omani Quality Mark has increased to 12, reflecting rising compliance by local manufacturers with national quality standards and a broader push to enhance the competitiveness of Omani products.
Laila bint Salim al Mashari, Head of the Quality and Conformity Development Department at the Directorate General for Standards and Metrology in Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, said the mark has become a central tool in promoting a culture of quality across the sultanate.
Speaking to Muscat Daily, Laila said interest from manufacturers continues to grow, with a significant number of applications currently under technical review. She explained that certification follows a strict process, including detailed technical assessments and full conformity checks against approved national standards and technical regulations.
Only products manufactured within integrated quality management systems qualify for the mark – a requirement aimed at enhancing consumer confidence and raising the overall standard of domestic production.

To ensure transparency and credibility, the ministry has appointed independent conformity assessment bodies to manage the certification process. Laila said this approach aligns with international best practices and reinforces trust in Omani Quality Mark.
She added that the certification is mandatory for certain essential products, including cement, ceramics and porcelain, given their critical role in construction and infrastructure. Ensuring the quality of these materials is vital for public safety and for improving the reliability of Omani products in regional and global markets.
The certification process extends beyond the product itself, covering the entire manufacturing facility. Factories must demonstrate consistent compliance with quality systems, operational controls and national standards throughout the production cycle.
“This comprehensive evaluation strengthens the reputation of Omani manufacturers and provides clear assurance to consumers that certified products meet strict requirements at every stage,” Laila said.
At a regulatory level, the mark supports more efficient market surveillance by acting as a clear indicator of compliance, simplifying inspection procedures and enforcement. It also contributes to building a national quality infrastructure aligned with Oman Vision 2040.
Laila noted that as the sultanate’s industrial base expands, the Omani Quality Mark is playing an increasingly strategic role in encouraging continuous improvement, modern production practices and competitiveness against imported goods.
With growing regional and international recognition, she said the mark gives Omani products stronger positioning in external markets.
She urged manufacturers to apply for certification, citing its role in supporting innovation, increasing trust between producers and consumers, and enhancing the profile of national industry at home and abroad.
