Muscat – A new initiative aimed at invigorating tourism activity across the governorates has been launched by Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, with a focus on promoting authentic local experiences and supporting community-based tourism.
The ministry announced the rollout of the Omani Tourism Experiences Platform, a step designed to strengthen the presence of locally driven tourism activities, further develop them and open the door for individuals and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to play a larger role in enriching the national tourism product.
Central to the initiative is the ‘Tourism Experience Creators’ programme, which encourages community participation in designing and delivering activities that showcase the sultanate’s cultural and natural diversity. Proposed experiences range from adventure tourism and nature exploration to coastal trips, Omani culinary arts, and introductions to heritage sites and traditional crafts.
According to the ministry, the platform will contribute to building a comprehensive national database of tourism experiences and products. This resource is expected to serve as a key reference point for future tourism development and quality enhancement, in line with the expectations of both domestic and international visitors.
The initiative is also intended to generate economic opportunities for local communities by empowering entrepreneurs and small business owners to present their ideas and experiences to a broader audience.
The ministry has invited residents and tourism practitioners to submit videos or photographs documenting their activities, whether in adventure tourism, nature exploration, coastal experiences, culinary preparation or the promotion of local heritage. Such content, it noted, will help spotlight the rich tourism diversity found across different governorates.
Submissions will be reviewed before suitable entries are featured on the platform. The move comes as part of ongoing efforts to reinforce Oman’s standing as a destination known for authentic and varied experiences that blend nature, culture and the country’s well-known hospitality.
