Muscat – Following the circulation of a widely shared social media video questioning the quality of its school buses, Karwa Motors has issued a detailed response, reje-cting what it described as ‘inacc-urate and misleading’ allegations while reaffirming its commitment to safety and transparency.
In a statement, the company said the video contained ‘inaccurate and misleading claims’ and reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability and adherence to international manufacturing standards.
‘Karwa Motors takes all public concerns seriously and remains committed to providing safe, reliable and high-quality transportation solutions for students across the sultanate,’ the company said.
Addressing allegations that its buses consume excessive diesel, Karwa stated that the vehicles are built with high-strength steel frames to enhance passenger safety and fitted with fully integrated, roof-mounted air-conditioning systems. ‘These safety and comfort features may result in slightly higher fuel consumption compared with lighter models that lack such specifications,’ the company clarified.
Responding to criticism that the buses’ windows are ‘tightly sealed’, Karwa said the design complies with international safety standards and protects students from external hazards. The buses meet the standards set by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) and are equipped with central air-conditioning, internal air circulation systems and upper emergency vents.
‘Opening side windows is not a safe or healthy alternative and should not be used as a substitute for proper air-conditioning,’ the company noted.
It added that replacement buses are provided in the event of a prolonged air-conditioning fault, with all AC units covered under a three-year warranty.
Karwa Motors dismissed claims that maintenance coverage is limited to 5,000km, clarifying that free maintenance extends up to 20,000km. It also stated that genuine spare parts are available for at least ten years and that the warranty period for its school buses has been extended from three to five years.
The company operates 23 service centres across the sultanate and offers mobile maintenance services, free pre-semester inspections and plans to expand its service network further.
On the issue of road stability, Karwa acknowledged a limited technical issue identified during the early rollout phase but confirmed that it was quickly resolved under warranty and in coordination with the relevant authorities. ‘The buses now meet all required safety and performance standards,’ the statement said.
