Muscat – Ministry of Health (MoH) has officially announced a decision to initiate a voluntary recall and withdrawal of specific batches of Danone products from local markets. This regulatory action is being conducted in full coordination with the company, which has already commenced the withdrawal process for the affected batches in alignment with the Ministry’s directives.
This precautionary measure follows recent international scientific developments concerning the presence of Cereulide, a toxin produced by the bacteria Bacillus cereus. The decision specifically references a scientific opinion released by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) on February 2, which established a new Acute Reference Dose (ARfD) for this substance in infants. The Ministry has clarified that this step is purely preventative and aligns with the latest global health updates. It emphasised that the recall does not indicate a confirmed health risk to consumers but rather reflects a commitment to the highest standards of food safety and quality. The Ministry also commended Danone for its swift cooperation and technical transparency, noting that such regulatory practices are internationally recognised and aimed at bolstering scientific confidence. Authorities continue to coordinate with relevant bodies to ensure all affected products are successfully removed from Omani markets to protect public safety.
