Muscat – Muscat Municipality has launched a new public awareness campaign urging residents to be vigilant about food expiry dates and adopt safe practices when buying and storing food.

The initiative, under the slogan ‘Check food expiry dates, protect your well-being’, aims to highlight the role of consumers in safeguarding their health and preventing foodborne illnesses.

As part of the campaign, the municipality shared five key tips to ensure food safety: always check product expiry dates before purchase, read food labels carefully, avoid buying items nearing expiry unless necessary, store products at the recommended temperature, and keep fresh, canned, and frozen items separate.

Officials stressed that food safety is a shared responsibility between suppliers, regulators, and consumers, and urged shoppers to make informed choices to protect their families.

The campaign is part of broader municipal efforts to raise public awareness on health and consumer safety.
