Oman braces for week-long unstable weather as CAA issues alert

Muscat – Oman is set to experience a period of unstable weather from Saturday, December 13, through December 20, with rainfall of varying intensity expected across several governorates, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said.

In a weather bulletin, the CAA said a trough of low pressure will affect the country’s atmosphere, bringing scattered rainfall, active winds and reduced visibility. Authorities warned of a high risk of wadis flowing in affected areas.

According to forecasts from the National Multi-Hazard Early Warning Centre, cloud formation and scattered rainfall of 5–10mm are expected over Musandam Governorate from Saturday evening. This will be accompanied by moderate to active northwesterly winds ranging between 10 and 25 knots.

Weather conditions are forecast to intensify on Sunday and Monday, December 14–15. Musandam is likely to receive scattered rainfall of 10–25mm, while Buraimi, North Batinah and South Batinah governorates may see rainfall ranging between 5 and 15mm.

The CAA said the period from December 14 to December 20, carries a strong likelihood of wadis running across the affected regions. Active northwesterly winds, with speeds of 10–30 knots, are also expected during this period.

Rainfall and unsettled conditions are forecast to persist from Tuesday to Thursday, December 16–18, over Musandam, Buraimi and the Batinah governorates. The effects are then expected to extend to most northern governorates on Friday and Saturday, December 19–20.

The authority urged citizens and residents to exercise caution, particularly in areas prone to wadi flows and during periods of reduced horizontal visibility. It also advised motorists to avoid crossing wadis and to follow official instructions issued by relevant authorities.

The CAA further called on seafarers and beachgoers to check sea conditions before heading out, and stressed the importance of closely monitoring official weather updates and bulletins throughout the week.
