Muscat – Oman Medical Specialty Board (OMSB) has announced the opening of registration for Omani physicians to enrol in the General Foundation Programme, with the new intake scheduled for May 2026.

The board said the step comes as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the national medical workforce and enhance the quality of postgraduate medical training in the sultanate.

According to the announcement, applicants must be Omani doctors holding a recognised degree in medicine from an accredited university. Candidates are also required to have completed the internship programme and obtained its certificate no more than 12 months prior to application.

For graduates who completed their internship outside Oman, the internship certificate must be accredited by the relevant department at Ministry of Health. In the absence of such accreditation, the application will be cancelled.

Applicants must also secure authentication of their medical degree from Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation if the qualification was obtained abroad. In addition, candidates whose medical studies were conducted in a language other than English are required to provide a valid English language proficiency certificate with the minimum scores specified by the board.

OMSB stressed that applications must be submitted electronically through its official portal, with all required documents uploaded as indicated in the online system.

The board noted that acceptance into specific specialties will depend on the availability of training positions in different governorates, and that some specialties may be subject to competition if the number of applicants exceeds available seats. Distribution of accepted candidates to training centres will be based on capacity.

The application is open until February 28.
