Muscat – Temperatures dipped sharply across parts of the sultanate over the past 24 hours, with Jebel Shams recording the lowest reading at -1°C, according to data released by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).

Meteorological stations recorded a low of 4.1°C in Saiq, 10.1°C in Fahud and 10.4°C in Yanqul.

Temperatures fell in interior and desert areas, too — 11.9°C in Thumrait, 11.8°C in Sunaynah and 11.1°C in Haima. Readings of between 12°C and 13°C were recorded in Qumayra, Hamra al Drooa, Mahdha and Bahla.

CAA said all data was obtained from officially monitored weather stations, urging residents – particularly those in mountainous areas – to take necessary precautions against cold conditions.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources reported that scattered rainfall was recorded in several wilayats across the sultanate during the period from January 10 to 11, up to 9am, with amounts varying from one wilayat to another.

According to data from monitoring stations, Suhar registered the highest rainfall at 21mm, followed by Wadi al Maawil with 7mm and Masirah with 4mm. Musannah received about 2mm.

Light rainfall of around 1mm was also reported in the wilayats of Seeb, Mahout, Barka, Nakhal, Liwa and Rustaq.

The ministry said its specialised teams continue to monitor weather conditions and rainfall levels, urging citizens and residents to exercise caution, particularly in areas prone to flowing wadis, and to adhere to safety instructions issued by relevant authorities.
