Muscat – The Muscat Governorate Police Command, in coordination with the Directorate General of Inquiries and Criminal Investigation, has arrested two European tourists following theft of jewellery valued at approximately RO1mn.
According to police, the suspects stayed in a hotel near a jewellery shop in Ghubrah, where they surveyed the location and planned the crime. At around 4am, they broke through the rear wall of the shop using a mechanical demolition tool, forced open a safe and stole a large quantity of jewellery and cash.
Police recovered the stolen jewellery from a beach in Al Sifah to where it was transported in a rented boat under the pretext of a recreational trip.
