Muscat – As Oman continues to diversify its tourism offerings, citizens and residents propose projects that blend sustainability, culture and global appeal. What tourism project or landmark would you like to see in Oman in the new year? Here is what Muscat Daily readers said:

Salim al Harthy, Businessman

I would love to see a world-class desert observatory in Sharqiyah Sands, combining astronomy, eco-lodges and bedouin storytelling. Oman’s clear skies are a natural advantage. Such a project would attract science lovers, families and responsible travellers, while preserving the desert’s silence and cultural wisdom.

A national maritime heritage park along the Muttrah–Qantab coast would be special. It could showcase dhow-building, pearl diving history, interactive museums and sea-to-table dining. Oman’s relationship with the ocean is deep, and this landmark would educate visitors while creating pride and jobs for locals.

Salim al Balushi, Private sector employee

I hope to see a mountain arts and wellness retreat in Jebel Akhdar. Combining hiking trails, artist residencies, yoga spaces and world class theme-based restaurants with Omani cuisine would attract mindful travellers.

Ayesha al Mammari, Student

An immersive Omani culture village using technology would be exciting – augmented reality tours of ancient life, traditional music performances, crafts workshops and regional food experiences. It should travel between governorates seasonally, allowing tourists to experience Oman’s diversity beyond Muscat in an engaging, modern way.

Rahul Mehta, IT professional

I would like to see a long-distance coastal cycling and walking trail from Musandam to Dhofar. With eco-stops and cafés, it would attract adventure tourists. Oman’s landscapes are perfect for slow exploration, and such a trail could become iconic, like Europe’s famous routes.

Aruna P Nair, Homemaker

A year-round international film and storytelling hub in Oman would be amazing. With outdoor desert screenings, workshops and co-production facilities, it could attract global filmmakers. Oman’s landscapes already look cinematic; this project would boost creative tourism and position the country as a regional film destination.

Arindam Sen, Private sector employee

I would love a theme-based museum that speaks of the country. The exteriors can match with the iconic symbols of Oman. A nearby hotel on the theme of Arabia can also add value.

David Schroeder, Student

Oman should build 18-hole golf courses within driving distances of all the country’s college prep schools. This would give all Omani youth the option to play golf in high school.
