Monday, 19th January, marks Martin Luther King Day in America. 

The festivities started early, on Saturday, with the MLK, Jr. Beloved Community Awards.

The awards recognised a wide range of honourees spanning civic leadership, social justice, education, youth advocacy, environmental justice, humanitarian work, and corporate social impact. 

Actor Viola Davis, who received the Coretta Scott King Soul of the Nation Award, delivered a deeply personal reflection on healing, truth, and national accountability. She said:

“There is no becoming without healing. There is no soul of a nation without the soul of its people."

Another big name at the event was Billie Eilish.

Billie won the "Environmental Justice Award".
